Life: The Beauty Of 5th Element Connection
Sep 01, 2024
I am concerned about the use of ‘regeneration’ becoming mainstream in our consulting discourse. Of life becoming equal to a thing, a product. Of objectifying life itself as a commodity.
I have spent more than 20 years gently moving, touching, sensing, feeling, tasting, loving, embracing.. this energetic field we can call ‘life’. I sense a deep respect of this word, ‘life’. To me, living in relation to this field is a life-long and never-ending journey. It is with(in) me 24/7 and in every breath I take.
Most importantly, I sense it. I feel it. The vitalistic, living, loving, moving flow of energy. Life doesn’t equal a commodity to be sold. Life doesn’t work like that. Or to put it otherwise: life is felt, it is not a bargain. It is the force of our moving bodies. It is the gentle touch of hands. It is deep listening to another human being. It is sensing the unpleasantness of a situation without lying, manipulating, moving away from, or throwing in a joke to handle our own felt insecure-ness.
It is to feel and really sense the illusion of separation. Sensing the beauty of being connected. With the sound of human voices in a café. The touch of coffee to your lips. The beauty of listening to your loved one.
The organizational context
There is no other world entering when we move our attention to an organizational context. Where I spend much time and energy. As you do.
When I meet with you and the people you work with, life is always-and-already-a part of this encounter. The sound of your voice. The intonation of joy, or maybe a little hesitation, even sadness? When we meet, we are always-and-already more than ourselves.
Life in a thousand streams, rhythms, vibrations, energetic flows.. is already-part-of-our-conversation. ‘We’ are merely potential passages of invitations opening-up-for-life-itself. A conversation is a potential opening up for life itself, for a 5th element, this beautiful field, this life force, which is immanent in every breath we take. And in every living belief system, religion, and mythology around the world. East, West, North, South. Whether Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Confucianism, Daoism..
And whether we look into the embedded belief systems of Agnosticism, Mysticism, Bön, Stoicism, etc. we sense a life force, an energetic field. A 5th element. Showing us that nothing is living in isolation. ‘We’ are already life expressing itself through our bodies. Our breaths.
Yes, we can fool ourselves and try to ignore the reality from Quantum Physics that no-thing is solely living in itself. In separateness. And we have built a world from this ignorance. It takes a few click on the net to see how interconnected life is.
The beauty is, that this embeddedness, this interconnectedness, this 5th element-ness, this cosmological everything-ness.. is moving into the very fabric of every encounter in any organizational setting.
We are always-already within life itself. ‘We’ are life, rhythms, vibrations, energy. The challenge is that we have learned to not-notice this. To not-register this. To not-sense this. To not-believe in this. We have come to see the illusion of separateness as a fact. A reality.
This is what makes us sick. No living being, be it a human, a flower, a cat, a lake, an insect, funghi, lichen, etc. can thrive in isolation. Life dies when being isolated. Life dies when we ignore the everything-ness of a 5th element.
And when life suffer, we suffer. When life dies, we die. The big Death is when we actually die. But there are so many minor deaths during an ordinary organizational every-day. So many conversations running in superficial streams. So many breaths not being registered. So many subtle and tricky ways of excluding colleagues by a specific tone of voice. Or simply to exclude by not inviting other colleagues into the fabric of activities.
The exclusions of life in everyday organizational space are manifold. And it makes us sick.
On top of this, we can try to sell ‘life’ as a commodity into the tapestry of organizational life. Yet, I do not think regeneration moves along this path as such.
This doesn’t mean that we cannot use the concept of ‘life’, ‘regeneration’, etc. when we talk, produce, communicate, launch new products. Of course we can. What we should remember, though, is that these activities in itself do not equal life nor regeneration itself.
Real regeneration is about sensing life itself in every encounter. Within me, within you. Within the space of other living beings.
If you do not sense this, call it something other. Call it organizational development. Call it operational procedures. Name the child what it is. But do not call the beauty of life itself something which it is not.
The beauty is, though, that life itself moves on. In fact, it really doesn’t care whether we name it ‘regeneration’ or not. We only fool ourselves if we in an unreflective way equal selling and communicating ‘life’ with the movement of life and living itself. Of course we can do this tricky exercise. And we actually do. But. We need to sense-and-live-life-itself-within-life to really celebrate and to respect this art of beauty we name regeneration.
