5TH ELEMENT COLLECTIVE

A 6-WEEK LIVE PRACTICE FOR FOUNDERS, ENTREPRENEURS AND THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER TO THEM

relationships as living systems

transform conflict to connection

Friction is not the problem. It is part of every living relationship. What wears a partnership down is what happens next: the old reactions that arrive before you have had a chance to choose.

For founders and entrepreneurs who think differently, and the people they love and grow with: learn to stay with discomfort, notice the old pattern as it rises, and respond in ways that create conditions for your relationship to thrive. Stregthen connection to yourself, each other and to that marvelous, mysterious thing called your relationship.

🗓 Next cohort begins with the free Root Work Live on Tuesday 27 October · 17:00–18:30 CET (Madrid time)

the same fight. the same silence. the same distance.

Friction shows up the way it always does: the argument that repeats with different content. The conversation that always ends in the same corner. The talk you both avoid. The closeness that has quietly turned into distance, numbness, shutdown.

And because discomfort is hard to stay with, we reach for what removes it — anger, resentment, blame, withdrawal. Or the quieter exits: the drink, the scroll, the work, the sleep, the over-functioning.

These are old protective responses to discomfort. When your body senses threat, it reaches for safety the fastest way it knows: fighting, fleeing, freezing or fawning, or numbing it all away.

They are not who you are. They are protection that once kept you safe, and that now at best keeps you from the closeness you long for. At worst is harming people you love.

But there is another way. It is called STAY.

a new view: your relationship is a living system

A relationship is not a machine with a fault to locate and repair. It is a living system — two nervous systems meeting, and a third thing emerging between them.

In a living system, patterns are co-created. The loop you keep landing in is not one person's fault; it is something the system does. That distinction changes everything: it ends the search for who is broken, and begins the work of seeing what the system needs.

When you can see the system, you are no longer inside the reaction. You gain space — and in that space, choice.

what you'll learn

✦ You'll learn to recognise friction and discomfort as signals — information for the relationship, not threats to it.

✦ You'll come to see the patterns that keep you circling in conflict and distance as something the relationship does — not as personal defects.

✦ You'll notice the old ways of coping — anger, resentment, withdrawal, drink, scroll, work, sleep — as they rise, and find the pause before them.

✦ You'll practise new responses that nurture connection and the relationship instead of numbing yourself or exploding — deeper connection to yourself, to the relationship, each other, and to the larger whole you are both part of.

✦ You'll grow a shared language and practices you can return to whenever tension rises.

who this is for

  • You, a founder or entrepreneur — welcome to bring your partner in life or business if you wish
  • Your relationship works, and you want it to be as alive as everything else you have built
  • You see the loops: recurring arguments, quiet withdrawal, reaching for the phone or for work
  • You’d rather grow new responses than repeat old patterns
  • You want a non-pathologising, complexity-aware way of meeting conflict
  • You don’t want a framework that treats one person as “the problem”
  • You’re willing to meet what arises with curiosity and responsibility instead of blame
  • You treat your relationships as something worth deliberate practice

the arc of our six weeks from conflict to connection

Week 1 · Meeting Friction – My Living System

Meeting discomfort at its root. You learn to sense what happens in you — body sensations, thoughts, emotions — and to recognise the moment friction becomes reaction.

Week 2 · Knowing Your Patterns – From Reaction to Choice

You come to know your ways of coping — the exits, the escalations — and practise finding the pause before them. Choice grows where reaction used to be.

Week 3 · Seeing Your Relationship as a Living System

Two people meet and a third life is born: the emergent we. Connection, communication, trust, agreements — you learn how the life between you moves, and how friction between you becomes information.

Week 4 · Practising New, Nurturing Responses

You practise staying with discomfort together with a buddy, or with your partner if you attend together — settling, repairing, and letting conflict deepen trust instead of eroding it.

Week 5 · Intimacy Intelligence

Developing skills that actually create conditions for meaningful relationships. We learn to hone intimacy on all levels, emotional, intellectual, physical in a fully boundary safe space (both sexual and non-sexual), spiritual - even digital. This is where everything we train comes together no matter what type of relationship is your focus.

Week 6 · In Service of Life – Your Living Compass

How are you being in service of (our) life — the relationship, the business, the community, the world around you? You close by co-creating your Living Compass: a living orientation you return to whenever tension rises.

Cards for Life: the deck that changes your conversations

A shared language when you feel you’re speaking different ones

Cards for Life is much more than a deck of cards. It is a set of key concepts for living systems thinking that shifts your focus from objects to relationships. In this cohort, we use the cards to bring that lens straight into the moments of friction between you.

  • A shared language when you feel you’re speaking different ones
Cards for Life gives you a common “language of life” so you can name the same patterns instead of fighting over words.

  • Resource cards to add perspective and nurturing language

  • Practice in real life, not just in theory
You use facilitator-selected cards as well as your own drawing to add serendipity and discover new pathways for your emergent relationship.

Included in your fee

A full Cards for Life deck is sent to you the day you enrol and arrives before week three, so you keep a deck and a shared language as a base for your conversations long after the six weeks.

If you already own the deck as a Cards for Life practitioner, the card cost is deducted from your fee.

why I teach this

I am Lucy Vittrup Christensen,

a psychotherapist and founder of 5th Element Collective. I am a best-selling author, TEDx speaker and intimacy expert.

But more importantly: for twenty-five years I have worked with founders, entrepreneurs and public figures from Copenhagen to Manhattan to Colombo to Madrid — people who create at the highest level on the outside but still struggle in their most important relationships on the inside.

What I teach here I did not learn in a clinic. I have been in relationships where friction ran the show, and I knew every exit — the blame, the withdrawal, the work, the numbing.

Every exit cost me the connection I was trying to protect. The turning point was a radical decision, repeated daily for years: to stop leaving and stay instead. Stay with and go through the discomfort instead of trying to bypass it.

It was the hardest work I have ever done — and it gave me the most connected relationship I have ever had. The friction did not disappear; it became the doorway. That is what I pass on now: not a theory, but a path I walk and have walked, shared so you can walk it in your own relationships.

Questions, answered

Do I need to have serious problems for this to be worth it?

No — the opposite. This is practice, not crisis care. It is made for people whose relationships already function well and who want to practise meeting friction, the way you would practise anything that matters. If you are in acute crisis, contact Lucy for professional 1:1 support first; this will still be here.

Can I come alone, or should I bring my partner?

Either. Most people come alone. A relationship is a living system: when one person changes how they meet friction, the whole relationship feels it. If you'd like to bring your partner in life or business, the €1,699 option covers you both.

How is this different from couples therapy?

Therapy is often based on analysis and cognitive understanding. It can focus on past events to understand how you relate; this work meets the living relationship as it is now — the loops, the reactions, the exits — and grows new responses through practice. It is educational and experiential, not clinical treatment, and it does not treat anyone as a patient.

Is it live, and what if I miss a session?

It's live: six Tuesdays on Zoom, 90 minutes each. Every paid session is recorded, so if you miss one, you can catch up in your own time. The free Root Work Live on Day 1 has no replay, on purpose.

How long do I have access to the material?

Lifetime access to the recordings and practices. Living systems change slowly and then all at once — you can return whenever the relationship needs it.

What if my schedule is full?

It's 90 minutes a week, online, from your home office, your studio or wherever you are. Every practice is made for real life — short enough to fit a full working week, real enough to change what happens at the dinner table.

Do I need prior experience with systems thinking?

None. You need only what you already have: a relationship with friction in it, and the willingness to practise.
